Expanding Opportunities for Boys and Men of Color in Durham
My Brother’s Keeper Durham (MBKDurham) vision is to ensure all of our boys and young men of color have equal opportunity to achieve success and prosperity through exposure and support.
We believe that every young person deserves equal opportunity to achieve success and prosperity regardless of circumstance. Our vision is to make this a reality for all of Durham’s boys and young men of color, each and every one of them whom are essential in our collective success. By realizing this, we are creating a brighter more promising future, not only for our boys, but for the entire area through collective impact.
We are committed to leading the way to ensure success for all youth regardless of the zip code into which they were born.
Our collaborative cross-sectional approach was initiated by President Obama’s National My Brother’s Keeper Alliance that spent time working through and evaluating the most essential elements that serve as key indicators of future success. We in turn adopted this concept during the “call for action” with emphasis on what’s currently happening in Durham that we can leverage, strengthen and build upon to serve as evidence base thus proving opportunities for replication. Interventions at the following critical points are vital to fostering inter-generational improvements and creating lasting change:

Reading at Grade Level by Third Grade
Graduating from High School Ready for College and Career
Completing Post-Secondary Education or Training.
Successfully Entering the Workforce
